As we wrote in a recent post, today's job search is an active, relationship-driven process focused on building real connections and uncovering opportunities that never make it to a job board. Many of the best roles live in the hidden job market. They’re filled through referrals, conversations, and networks long before they’re posted publicly.
The best way to access these hidden jobs is through friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and contacts in an industry. Being proactive in a job search means we must identify and reach out in an organized manner to people who can help. It is also critical to do our homework to be fully informed and find those bits of information that will instantly connect us and begin genuine relationships.
The Careershift platform was built for this type of proactive, research-oriented approach to job search. Careershift enables job seekers to search thousands of open opportunities, find helpful contacts "around" jobs that can be utilized for networking, and convert organized research into strategic outreach. Careershift can make job seekers more efficient, better targeted, and more prepared in a professional search for a great job or internship.
Below are some tips on how to make the most of the Careershift tools:
Use the Contact Search to identify individuals at the companies where you are looking at job opportunities. This can be especially helpful for companies with multiple locations, allowing you to find and network with people in a particular office or region. Additionally, you can use the search to find people who share an affiliation with a college or university, and you can search for individuals with a particular job title.
Use the Keywords field to filter results and fine tune your search for job listings. Try the "All Keywords" and "Any Keywords" options to assess what’s most effective in returning listings that match your interests and to get a feel for the types of roles that are in demand. Review job descriptions from within the platform to get a feel for job requirements and skills that are in-demand without the need to fill out additional website registrations.
Filtering by job posting date is very helpful if you want to sort results by the recency of job listings or you want to limit results to a specific time frame (e.g., within last day or week). Especially in today’s job market, being able to identify fresh postings and make your interest known quickly can be an advantage.
Take advantage of additional filters such as the listing source of a job (e.g., directly from a company website, on a job board, with a staffing agency), the job type (full-time or part-time, internship, temporary or contract), experience level, and salary in addition to location to further refine your list of potential job openings while developing greater insight into who is hiring and what they are hiring for.
Use the Company Search to research companies in an industry, of a specific employee or revenue size, and by location in the world. Once you’ve identified a group of companies that meet your desired criteria, you can learn more about the company’s financials, their social presence and recent news, and their competitors. You can also review the types of job roles and requirements they have posted recently, helping you understand their hiring context and where related jobs might be available.
CareerShift combines comprehensive job listings with employer and professional contact information – giving job seekers the tools to explore careers, research employers, and foster career-building networks in one centralized platform.
